Plotting in Vain

April 9, 2023 Preacher: Caleb Bunch Series: Acts

Topic: Union with Christ Scripture: Acts 23:12-35

 God's sovereign providence is displayed by His presence and the presence of Christ and the Holy Spirit living in the apostle Paul's life as he is threatened by his enemies in Jerusalem. Christ is with us always. The Holy Spirit lives in us for our good and for God's glory.

1. 1 Cor. 15:3-4
2. Romans 6:9
3. Rev. 1:17-18
4. John 15:18-20
5. Psalm 34:4
6. “God is sovereign over suffering, which means it is not meaningless. It is not wrath. It is not ultimately destructive. It is not wanton or heedless. It is purposeful. It is measured, wise, and loving.” - John Piper

7. To experience fellowship with the Son is to be made alive in Christ, justified in Christ, sanctified in Christ, seated in the heavenly realms in Christ, built up into Christ, and given fullness in Christ. Those joined to Christ are “members of Christ,” “crucified with Christ,” “included in Christ,” “baptized into Christ,” and “the body of Christ.” They (figuratively) eat and drink Christ; they are one with Christ; Christ dwells in them and they dwell in Him; and they can do nothing apart from him. - Marcus Peter Johnson

8. “How few of the Lord’s people recognize the truth that Christ is either Lord of all or He is not Lord at all!” - Hudson Taylor

9. “The secret of faith that is ready for emergencies is the quiet, practical dependence upon God day by day which makes Him real to the believing heart.” - Hudson Taylor

10. “Lord Jesus, make Thyself to me a living, bright reality;
More present to faith’s vision keen
Than any outward object seen;
More dear, more intimately nigh
Than e’en the sweetest earthly tie.” - Hudson Taylor

11. 1 Cor. 6:19
12. Romans 8:11
