Doeg of War
September 15, 2024 Preacher: Caleb Bunch Series: 1 Samuel
Topic: Judgment Scripture: 1 Samuel 12:1–25
What does judgment look like? It can look like God removing His hand of restraint from someone's life, allowing them to do exactly what they want to do. As God removes His hand of restraint from Saul, he allows his paranoia and fear rule over him, leading him to commit genocide against the house of the Lord.
Ask yourself two questions. 1) What do you think Gods's Judgement is like? 2) How can someone be a sweet child, but turn into a cruel and violent leader?
The Bible has many stories, but 1 story line, part of the story line is below.
- The origin of the Priesthood is clearly given in the end of Exidous. Aron become the 1st Priest followed by is lineage.
- He had 4 son's. Two older son's offered unauthorized fire and they became consumed by the fire because they disobeyed Gods instrustions.
- God also set up courts of judgement. One of the rules is that you must have two or more witnesses to convict a person of a crime and/or to put a person to death.
- Eli, a descendant of Aron, became the head Priest and had 2 son's which were not honoring the Lord. Everyone knew about the evil these two sons were doing in God's house, but he did not do anything to stop them. God sent a message to Aron that he and his whole family except for one would be killed, due to their dishonoring him.
-Saul failure - Saul was told to go and Strike down and kill every Amalekite and their livestock. But Saul did not kill the animals and all the people. Due to this God will eventually take everything away from Saul and his whole lineage will dissappear.
Doeg of War
- David escaped from Saul who was trying to kill him to a cave and 400 men and their families followed. David took his Parents to Moad for safe keeping away from Saul. David Later went into the forest of Danab.
- Saul becomes more paranoid and elivated his own clan and then accursed them of conspiring agains him in that they were helping David. Doeg is the person who lied and told Saul that Ahimelech (son of Ahitab) aided David and gave him a sword and provisions.
- God's judgment of the Priest took place because God's hand of restraint was taken off of Saul who became paranoid and had Doeg kill all the priests and their families on Nob, except for one person who runs to David.
4 things Christians need to do.
1) Don't play with sin. This will slowly pull you down, like a water slide. Once you start it is hard to stop.
2) Don't assume Gods judgement on others. Everyone deserved death. You must ask for forgiveness of your sins.
3) Recognize God's sovereignty over all things. He left Saul loose and he became evil and distroyed himself and his family.
4) Stay Focused on God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. this is the only way to eternal like.
