Saul was never interested in doing what God wanted.  He approached God only when he wanted advice or help concerning Battles.  He never put his trust in God.  He was not saved and felt distant from the Lord and refused to obey his commands and did not confess his sins, he reached out to a female medium to get help which further put him against God.  He refused to recognize the Lord as his God, and was punished and his whole family line dissappeared.

If you are feeling distant from the Lord by not being saved, being in sin or just trying to survive hard times, you must know that Lord is God and put your faith in him, repent of your sins and put your hope in God and Praise Him, no matter what your circumstances.
