Scripture: Isaiah 40
God Comforts His People
Where do you turn when life feels uncertain, painful, or out of your control? Isaiah 40 reminds us that true comfort is found not by looking inward, but by beholding our God. He forgives sin, reveals His glory in Christ, keeps His Word forever, gently shepherds His people, and renews the strength of those who wait on Him. Be encouraged: God sees you, rules over all things, and is strong enough to sustain you through every trial. “Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God. — Isaiah 40:1
Sermon Summary
Today's sermon calls God’s people to find comfort by beholding who God is rather than looking inward for strength. After Isaiah’s long warnings of judgment, chapter 40 opens with God’s tender command: “Comfort, comfort my people.” The sermon explains that true comfort is not denial of pain but God coming alongside His people to strengthen them. God comforts believers by reminding them that their sin is pardoned, His glory has been revealed in Jesus Christ, His Word stands forever, and the Good Shepherd uses His power gently for His sheep. The message also emphasizes God’s greatness: He is bigger than creation, all-knowing, stronger than the nations, greater than idols, attentive to His people, and able to renew the strength of those who wait on Him. The central encouragement is that believers can trust God even when plans collapse, fear rises, or suffering continues, because He sees, rules, forgives, shepherds, and strengthens His people.
