That Sinking Feeling

June 4, 2023 Preacher: Caleb Bunch Series: Acts

Topic: Faith Scripture: Acts 27:1– 28:10

1-The world operates with expediency while the Christian operates with wisdom.

The world seems to rush through trials and situations and try to find their own way through life while the christian uses wisdom found in Gods word to discern the wisest way to approach a trial.

2-Christians have hope when the world does not.

In the boat, the sailors and the crewmates all lost hope in survival even though paul told them that they would live. The world believes in themselves or idols and their hope is anchored in a flimsy foundation but the christians hope is anchored in the one true and living God, who never leaves us.

3-The world will find there own way through suffering but christians will believe in God.

The sailors attempted to find their own way of salvation but paul trusted in God and stayed in the boat and trusted that God would save all of them. There no need in trying to find another way or another saftey boat but the only saftety boat we should take is Gods.

4- The world only trust their senses while believers only trust in the promises of God.

When troubles come , do you hold on to yourself or are you going to hold onto his promises that he offers. The wordly way to view suffering is as if God is angry or showing his wrath on the believer but God sends trials and sufferings to grow the christian and he does this in love and mercy. All of Gods suffering has a greater purpose.

5-The world see suffering as God being angry and showing justice while christians see it as Gods mercy.

People of malta and the world think of suffering as divine justice but christians should view suffering as Gods immense mercy. God is slow to angry and abounding in steadfast love. If God gave us what we deserve, everybody would be suffering in hell buts Gods mercy and grace saves us.
